- Tell us a bit more about yourself.
As co-founder & CTO of Metta Space, I’m passionate about machine learning and its application towards gender equality in the workplace. Born in the UK, raised in France and having pursued my further education in Spain, I feel grateful for the opportunity to continue learning from different cultures; especially, in regards to variations in languages and the latter’s effect on the detection of sexual harassment in written communications using NLP.
- Why did you create Metta Space?
I co-founded Metta Space with my brilliant friend Helena Oettingen after we spent 8 months researching the proliferation and effects of sexual harassment on the workplace. Once we had brought to light that a majority of individuals experienced sexual harassment in the workplace with 60% of women and 1/3 of men being a target in their working lifetime, we decided that we wanted to create sustainable and long-lasting change to create safe working cultures.
- What is the new European Whistleblowing about?
The EU Whistleblowing Directive 2019/1937 states that all companies in the EU with more than 50 employees must have a whistleblowing reporting system for all breaches of EU law.
- How is your solution solving the issue? How does it work?
We are taking this opportunity for companies to comply with the Whistleblowing Directive as well as better their working cultures as a whole, with a special concentration on gender equality and anti-harassment. We provide companies with an employee whistleblowing application and an employer case management centre with resolution of each report in mind. We’re currently still in R&D for our NLP plug-in to detect sexual harassment in real-time in written communications of sexual harassment that we look forward to bring to market soon.
- What is your future vision of women at work?
My vision is a simple one: Womxm should enjoy equal opportunity, pay and dignity in the workplace as their Mxn peers. I firmly believe that businesses’ acknowledgment of sexual harassment as a form of male violence that is not tolerated in the workplace will have an impactful effect on the future of women at work.
